After moving from Sevilla for £14million, Promes settled in Ajax, the most predominant football club in the Netherlands. Averaging 0.42 goals per game and 30 goals in all competitions the 28 year old has made quite an impression. Renowned for his skilful play and pace, Promes is thriving at Ajax, however after the recent shock incident he was arrested the day after he scored in Ajax's 4-0 Eredivisie win over PEC Zwolle on Saturday.

It has been reported that Promes held a large family gathering in a warehouse in Abcoude, a town in the province of Utrecht. It was at this party that he has supposedly had an argument with a family member, reacting by stabbing them which resulted in suspected severe injuries. Although this has recently just been presented in the news, the incident was reported around a month ago, in late July. The relative is believed to have alerted the police last month and police spokesperson Jelmer Geerds confirmed a 28-year-old man had been arrested on Sunday morning. "We only heard about the incident a month ago," Geerds said. "An investigation was then started and this morning led to an arrest."

Dutch reports also confirm that if Promes is found guilty he will face a maximum sentence of up to four years.

The causes of the reported argument is unknown, but several of the family members were reported to have tried to break up the argument. One of the men involved who is unknown has been suspected to have suffered serious knee injuries. The Ajax player was reported by the club to not attend trading the following day, and Promes could face a further three days in jail, before a statement is made.
