In recent times, the colloquial term “SIMP” has taken the millennial generation by storm. The term applies to men who act in a chivalrous way towards women and is meant as an insult. Although the term was first used against men who went to the extreme in order to please women, it now applies to simple courtesy such as holding the door open for a female, or even simply talking to a woman.
This has severe negative effects on society, as it means most young men will go out of their way to avoid speaking to a member of the opposite gender for fear of being called a “SIMP” by his mates. The negative mentality behind this leads to reduced mingling of the sexes, and the lack of exposure to each other could lead to a social divide that would be hard to overcome. For this reason, the negative connotations behind the term “SIMP” should be eradicated from society, allowing for the unnecessary shame behind speaking to women to no longer be an issue to young men.
