A store assistant at Morrisons in Sidcup has helped to cheer up a young, fed-up boy by letting him play on the tills and scan his family’s items.

Nine-year-old Beau McAlpine has spent his summer holidays helping his mum and dad to look after his grandmother, 70, who had a knee operation six weeks ago.

And for her first outing since the opertion, grandmother-of-six Janis Pullen, Beau and Beau's mum headed to Morrisons.

While the family loaded their shopping onto the till, the cashier asked Beau if he had enjoyed his summer holidays.

When Beau's answer was just “it’s been alright”, she invited him to have a go on the till to try and cheer him up.

Janis, from Orpington, said: “Beau hadn’t been able to go away because of my leg and he’s been so good all summer supervising my leg exercises – for pocket money, of course.

“The lady at Morrisons really cheered him up and it was such a surprise.

“He absolutely loved it and it made me really happy to see how happy he was – I was almost in tears.

“Beau was talking about it for the rest of the day.”

Beau spent his time in Morrisons serving his family, scanning and swiping their goods and putting it all through the till.
