A mass vaccination day is being held at Charlton Athletic's football stadium this Sunday, with 16 to 17-year-olds being offered Covid-19 vaccines for the first time.

The Government have announced that all 16 and 17-year-olds in England are to be offered a first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine or the chance to book one by August 23.

And Greenwich Council, South East London CCG and Charlton Athletic have announced the return of The Valley as a vaccination centre.

Anyone aged 16 or over will be able attend the stadium in south east London between 9:30am and 5pm on August 22, with £10 high street vouchers on offer for everyone vaccinated

You can pre-book here, or walk-in on the day.

Health Secretary Sajid Javid said giving jabs to teenagers between 16 and 17 would enable teenagers to build up some protection against the virus before school or college resumes in September.

Children aged 12 to 15 who are clinically vulnerable or live with adults who are at increased risk of serious illness from the virus, will also be invited for their vaccine by August 23, NHS England has said.

The Valley became a mass vaccination centre back in June to help with the national rollout of the vaccine, with local residents and Addicks fans able to wait pitch-side.

The first, one-day special event saw 1,000 Charlton Athletic tickets handed out to those receiving their first jabs, but the stadium has since been opened up several times for vaccine distribution.

And the iconic south east London stadium has been open in some regard to locals for jabs since March.

Wayne Mumford, Charlton Athletic’s Commercial Director, said: “Charlton has a long history of excellent work in the local community and we’re pleased to be joining forces with the Royal Borough of Greenwich council and South East London Clinical Commissioning Group on this important activity as we all work towards a return to some sort of normality.

Bexley Council also added that some clinics in the borough are now offering the Pfizer vaccine to 16 and 17 year olds, with walk-ins available. Click here to find your closest walk-in vaccination centre.
