Not everyone has company over Christmas. For many, Christmas is a time to spend with family and loved ones that we cherish but imagine Christmas without them, it wouldn’t be the same, would it?

At Christmas you reunite with old friends, there are games and there is loads of amazing food. It’s a time full of tradition and presents and love. But this isn’t the case for everyone. Do you see people in your town or village walking around by themselves? Do you ever wonder if they have family, friends or a place to go on Christmas Day?

In Chalfont St Peter on Christmas day at Gold Hill church there was a Christmas dinner and celebrations for those people who may have been alone at Christmas. There was home cooked food and presents and a chance to meet and chat with new and old people.

When people talk about Christmas they say it is a time for giving but is this really true as many of us give selfishly. We give some of our time and give some of our effort but we rarely give all of our efforts. Many of these lonely people have a lot of family. They have loved ones who don’t come and visit and who don’t give all their effort. These people may not have seen their family in years as they are busy making new lives however this leaves some people with only their old memories.

Maybe we should embrace the true meaning of Christmas and open our hearts to everyone. It doesn’t have to be big to make a difference. You can donate your time to make a difference or just a smile may make someone’s day.
