During this month, there has been an alarming rise in violent burglaries and crime. This has left many people feeling unsafe, even while they are in their own homes. The burglary rate from over the recent years has peaked now and induced panic and spread fear. Many people have taken it upon themselves to “keep watch” and guard their neighbourhood by taking turns in patrolling their area and driving slowly, looking for suspicious behaviour. This has already been deemed inadvisable by the police, but it does however empathise the gravity of the situation.

Many people sit at home nowadays, especially at night, the prime hours of crime and law breaking, in trepidation because of these unlawful, thieving perpetrators.

“I am constantly worried about people breaking in nowadays, especially in my neighbourhood since it has happened before. My house could be next for all I know,” said Mrs Morris while discussing the dangerous possibilities.

“I think I am becoming paranoid now. There is, to me, suspicious behaviour everywhere, every day now,” admitted Mr Rivers.

“I live alone so most of the time I am terrified especially after every little sound there is outside of my house. My heart just skips a beat,” admitted another terrified resident.

Considering the recent increase of burglaries and crimes of theft and breaking-and-entering, the police has advised people not to stay home alone when they can avoid it. Especially children under eighteen, because this reduces the risk of coming face to face with a burglar, which can end with violence. Burglaries can happen during the day too. Remember to lock all entrances into your house, lock away and hide your valuable for safe keeping and be look out for suspicious behaviour. That includes excessive loitering and seeing a stranger’s car parked outside a house for too long. Call the police if it gets too suspicious to maintain safety. If a situation arises where you are in the house while a burglar is, exit the house immediately without confrontation and call the police or stay hidden and call the police.
