This is not your average news story, but a general life message and food for thought about the importance of being open-minded.

Albert Einstein, a revolutionary genius of a scientist once said:

“The world as we have created it is a process of our thinking. It cannot be changed without changing our thinking.“

Change begins with you, within you, in your mind, in your thoughts.

As a citizen of the Earth, I dream of a world where everyone is open-minded, open to new ideas and experiences, unswayed by ignorance and hate, to think for themselves, to seek the truth.

In this modern era where technology heavily influences everything we do and see, it is ever so easy to fall into the trap of fake news and misinformation. With such few powerful sources controlling and providing news and information, it is even worse knowing that this could, or is happening without us even knowing…

We wouldn’t know if we were being controlled, we wouldn’t know if all the information because it would be withheld. We simply wouldn’t know.

With such a range of social media in the world, it would be easy for news to circulate because anyone, and anybody could provide information. It is freedom of speech, something that most quite rightfully pride over. But… how reliable is the information provided?

With a touch of a button, an misinterpreted, ill-intended tweet could go viral, leading to backlashing on a potentially innocent person.

With a touch of a button, an innocent person’s life could be completely ruined, for no particular reason but malice, anger and hate.

With a touch of a button, groups such as anti-vaxxers and racists liberally spread their views across the internet, around the world, in seconds, resulting in a new seed planted in the new believers; minds, potentially resulting in thousands of deaths.

So much hate and inequality spread to all, just like that. But isn’t it freedom of speech after all?

We need to stay open-minded, be willing to consider new ideas, but simultaneously not so naive and be easily swayed by everything we see. Think of how much better the world will be if people were not against trying new things, new experiences, or open to new people. One of the causes of racism in people is that they are stubbornly remaining in one perspective, and therefore act inappropriately and maliciously towards the prejudiced group.

All innovations and inventions that move the world forward are new. Somebody had to be brave and try something for the first time, taking that first step paving the way for the rest. Like a neuron forming a new path in the brain: once accessed, it is easier to access later.

“That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”

Famously declared by American astronaut Neil Armstrong after putting his left foot on the Moon on July 20, 1969.

I beg one to need to think for oneself, but also making sure that one’s logic is righteous, not being afraid to change if we are wrong.

We need to take action, because we, although so small and seemingly insignificant, can create change.

“The world as we have created it is a process of our thinking. It cannot be changed without changing our thinking.“

~Albert Einstein
