These days, we are dependent upon social media to let the world know what  we ate for lunch on Tuesday, to find out which Disney princess we are most like and to occasionally laugh at sarcastic cat memes.

Although social media is a blessing in disguise(particularly during the lockdown period) there are still major with online networking

To begin with, social media can eliminate all aspects of privacy. The constant need to inform everyone what you are doing, saying and thinking diminishes any sense of confidentiality.  Not only is it unnecessary, it also puts you at risk of exposing yourself or details about your life that people need not be aware of.To add to this, applications themselves are able to get their hands upon our data, which can steal our private information. It is important that you post and share things only with  those whom you know well rather than with the world at large.

Social media is brilliant at hiding one's true self. The fact that no one is able to see you makes it incredibly easy for people to gain the confidence to do and say things that, in real life, they would be careful not to say. In a survey by Ditch the Label, 47% of young people who took the survey have received nasty profile comments and 62% have been sent nasty private messages via smartphone apps. The lack of identification gives people the licence to be hurtful to one another, and to say what is truly on their mind. Although it is an effective method to gain confidence, people seem to forget that what they say online has the potential to come back to haunt them in the future. There have been many instances where people have been affected by things that they have said on social media in the past. Therefore,it is crucial that utmost care is taken to make sure that nothing that you say or do can negatively affect you in the future.

The ability to text people who are only a meter away can help to facilitate laziness as well as decreasing face-to-face communication skills. Computer reliance could hurt a person’s ability to have a conversation by making it awkward and unusual to hear something and respond with a thoughtful message through the spoken word because of one’s dependence on a keyboard to convey a message.

There are 7.9 billion people in the world(worldometer2021).

7.9 billion people!

Out of which we will meet approximately 80,000 through the course of our lives. It is also increasingly likely that out of that 80,000,we will all come across at least a few immoral people. With the escalation of the ability to contact strangers, it is essential that we don't give out too much information about ourselves, as we never really know who is on the other side of the screen.
