Residents of south-east London and Kent woke up to a chilly blanket of snow on the first Sunday of February. The weather dropped into the minus degrees, in stark contrast to to the sunny skies of just a couple days before.

Caused by Storm Darcy, the fourth storm of the year, cold gales, bringing snow and frost with them,  are blowing their way across the country for the second time this year- with the cold white stuff having fallen a week prior, albeit more lightly (in most areas). My back garden was greeted with a thick coating of the snow, which fell from morning to right now- as I write this, I can still see it out of my window. It was more than enough to mould into a snow dog, and for a intense snowball fight between my family.

But other parts of the country were greeted with a much more battering downpour. The northeast and midlands braced themselves for cold air, but got a lot more than they expected- torrential downpour and a fierce blizzard caused havoc. Icy road and even slight flooding disrupted the area, and since the storm is expected to blow its way through the country for a few more days, the amber warning that has been issued is not going to go away for a couple of days, at the least.

Here in the south east, though, we have been lucky enough to get all the fun parts of snow without any of the danger- and I can’t wait to get out in it again in the next few days!
