With the world constantly changing and evolving it's hard to believe we would ever see a future like 'Ready Player One' or 'Sword Art Online'. Both the individual movie and anime depict a world in which is all online, and they use this world to help escape the either sad or ruined real-world they live in. While both plots are too much detail to go into I would recommend watching them and comparing how close they are to nowadays.
What I mean by this is currently companies around the world are working on technology that will forever change how we see gaming. Currently VR headsets are a thing but even now they feel quite a bit away from the real deal. However, apple has announced they are working on an 8k resolution VR headset. This combined with the new technology Elon Musk announced were he will be able to enhance humans intellectual ability and make us “better” is just simply scary. Other massive companies as well are working on such feats.
Gaming addiction is already a real thing and NHS actually puts it down as a real condition. This was before the pandemic and before kids and adults were confined to their homes. I’m just hoping if such technology does ever get released that people’s addiction and need for such a device is not overwhelming to the point were they quit there real life hobbies, activities and jobs. With that said as with any technology this could be groundbreaking and used in such a way to actually benefit those who are feeling down or just simply want a side activity to do from time to time.
