As the lockdown prevails, the teenage community in society has experienced a downgrade in communication and relationships. Without the much needed social interaction, teens have lost the sense of communication resulting in a tense atmosphere around all relationships.

But a recent event has rekindled the sense of community and has provided more than a hundred teenagers with a day-long retreat to interact with individuals online and learn about building healthy relationships. The youth group Pandava Sena organised a retreat on the 13th of February where almost 150 teenagers from ages 14-18 participated. The 6 hour long event involved several amazing speakers, an engaging online escape room, a meditation and inner depth workshop, and most importantly a space to meet new people. The feedback from the event was incredible, with so many positive messages regarding the speakers, the sessions and the enthusiasm of the MCs.

Niam Lakhani, who was one of the MCs for the event, talks about how he found the experience of hosting such a huge programme.  ‘A few weeks ago, I was involved in hosting an online retreat for over 130 students which was based on building meaningful relationships. The retreat was a great success with many renowned speakers who gave meaningful and relevant lectures on how we can build deeper relationships in life’.

A team of hardworking individuals put lots of time and effort into making this the success it was and each of them were instrumental in regaining the lost connection between the teenagers in society. The talks were fantastic and the speakers engaged everyone so well. The youth group has continued to organise more events for teenagers to regularly attend, with more amazing speakers, games and fun. The success of this event proves that we can truly adapt to any situation with thought and effort. The lockdown has stopped us from doing so many things, but if we try, we can truly create an innovative approach to restoring the much-missed sense of community.
