It has been around a week since the new year has started and many events have already taken place.

When the clock struck 00:00 on the 1st of January a new year was declared and with that came many celebrations and hope for a great year. Like every other year fireworks were shot to the sky to display our celebrations and colour our dark skies. However, this year Britain’s declaration of the new year did not blend in but rather stood out compared to other nations. We were the only country to include the Black Lives Matter movement, LGBTQ+ community, the NHS, etc… in a light show. These beautiful dedications truly showed that we have learnt from the past year. It is safe to say that in the past year everyone has been through a journey and being the single country to do this performance highlighted how developed and open-minded we are. We showed other countries our strength as we support all the aspects that are a part of our community.

However, as the year has progressed, we have plunged deeper than ever in coronavirus cases. Deaths each day have risen over 1,000 and cases have reached 50,000+. This has caused us to return to a lockdown remarkably like the one in March last year and just like then we will persevere. The only thing we can do is hope for a new chance in 2021 and learn from events like we have from 2020.
