Latymer Upper is a co-educational secondary school situated in Hammersmith, in London. On Friday the 20th of March in 2020, Latymer unfortunately was under order to close by the government due to the threat of the CoronaVirus. Until the end of the school year, lessons commenced via remote learning.

However at the start of this academic year Latymer re-opened. But it wasn’t the same. For example the year groups are now ‘bubbles’ so they have to come in at different times to the other years to avoid mixing with them. Compatible with this, the time tables and lunch times have been carefully amended to avoid any mingling.

Another drastic change is that pupils have to wear masks at all times in the school building; they are permitted to not have them on outside however at all times inside they must have them on. Teachers, on the other hand, can take their masks off while teaching provided they are at least two meters away from the students however their freedom on interacting with other staff members is rather limited.

Here is a quote from Year 10 student, Imogen Rodford on the matter, ‘I think that latymer has adapted really positively to the covid crisis in a way which ensures pupils can see teachers and friends to have an overall good school experience’. To conclude Latymer has put certain measures in place which seem to be having a positive effect as the school has remained open since September.
