As England prepares to exit the second lockdown this year on December 2nd, possibilities for a normal Christmas are under way.

From Wednesday, London will be entering tier 2, allowing for the re-opening of hospitality venues and allowing for up to 6 people to meet outdoors. From a window of 23rd -27th December, three households will be allowed to form a Christmas bubble, with no travel restrictions during the five-day period. However, going to a pub or restaurant with your bubble has been prohibited, and as always if you are having any symptoms of COVID 19 or self-isolating you cannot form a bubble.

Though this may be a relief for many, that Christmas can still be celebrated with family and friends, some people are still worried about the aftermath this could cause when celebrations are over. Chanel Newman, a parent voiced her concerns to me as she stated,” The free movement during Christmas could lead to a third lockdown. These periods of uncertainty are an inconvenience to everyone. The government urges us to make a ‘personal judgment’ but this could lead to us putting more vulnerable relatives at risk.” Government scientists also warn that these new rules could very well lead to a third wave.

On the other hand, many people are rejoicing that they will be able to see their close friends and relatives. Kenny Wilson, told me” It is a relief that we can still celebrate Christmas with loved ones, after the year we’ve had it is important that we end on a festive high.”
