With lockdown ending on the 2nd of December Boris Johnson has announced that most of England will be in Tier 2 and Tier 3. these new restrictions have resulted in areas such as Birmingham and Manchester being placed in tier 3 and London in tier 2. How useful these new restrictions will be, the experts claim very as places in tier 3 their coronavirus cases will fall and in tier 2 remain stable. However plans to lift restrictions on December 23rd until December 28th, raises the question of how efficient this will be, since there will be a mixing of households and many people celebrating in places of worship wont that just result in more coronavirus cases if there aren’t proper and effective precautions put in place? Boris Johnson speech on the 26th of November received over 1.2 thousand dislikes on Sky News YouTube channel with many users clearly very angry and disappointed with the prime minister.

One user commented: “so basically they’ve rebranded the lockdown. They really think we’re stupid. How disrespectful”

And another user commenting: “Do they realise that if pubs and restaurants are shut in 1 town but 20 miles down the road everywhere is open, then people are just gonna go there for a day/night out instead?”

Comments like these make reason to question the governments plans and how efficient they’re claimed to be as it seems that heavy restrictions in one place will just result in people going to another city where the restrictions are more relaxed causing even more traffic and possibility of cases rising. The way the government has handled this pandemic and the response they have received from the public, causes us to wonder how much this will affect the conservatives in the next general election.
