On Friday 16th October, year 11 girls from Croydon High School took part in their Sixth Form Taster Day in order to step into the life of a sixth former and begin thinking about their future.

Each student involved chose six subjects prior to the day, and then during the morning of the day they each had a lesson in five out of six of those choices. A student from year 11, Emily, felt that these taster lessons gave students ‘an insight into our possible subject choices’.

At the end of the day, all of the students listened to a previous Croydon High sixth form student talk about her experience at the school, and then in groups they used information about fictional girls at Croydon High to make decisions about her education and future. The students also got to experience their first study period, which gave them the opportunity to explore their possible A-level choices further, and also talk to some of the Sixth Form team in order to get a head start on conversations about their future.

During a conversation with the Deputy Head, Mrs Bradshaw, about the importance of the day she said, 'I think despite the fact that sixth form are very visible to the rest of the school, there is always something that is mysterious about what goes on the other side of the doors, and as much as our materials try to give us a taste of what sixth form is like, being up here is something unparalleled to that.'

The day turned out to be a great success and encouraged the girls to start thinking about life after GCSEs.
