A Little Kindness from the Easter Bunny

As the UK remains in a tough lockdown while a pandemic takes over the world, we have probably all seen the rainbows for the NHS scattered across our Instagram feeds, painted signs in house windows, and heard claps ripple across London on Thursdays at 8:00pm, but what about the stories about those who really do actionize helping the vulnerable of society?

This Easter, a remarkable event occurred, where both carehome front line staff and the people behind the home were fully appreciated and recognised for their huge efforts and work during this time.

At one carehome in Essex, a food delivery didn’t arrive on time, leaving the directors stressed as to how they were going to feed many of their residents. Following phone enquiries, the rection of the food delivery company was somewhat surprising. Not only they appologised and delivered the order without further delay, they fully waived the charges, adding 90 Easter Eggs for all staff and residents.

"The elderly are particularly vulnerable during this time, and deserve this, so do those taking care of them," - said the store manager.

This unexpected kindness greatly wowed the director of this carehome, whom I interviewed.

He said, “I definitely want everyone to know about this story, I’m going to share it as much as I can. It’s very beautiful how during this stressful time, some people are still being so kind and helping to uplift spririts of those having to be in isolation, away from their freinds and families.”

So many of us are hugely struggling with the lockdown and the anxiety it has induced. “It’s been very stressful and we’ve heard lots of stories about deaths resulting from COVID-19 in other carehomes. Luckily, we haven’t had any fall ill with Corona yet, and we are continuing to keep a strict no visitation policy.” Staff at the care home felt a surge of happiness and the director felt overwhelmed. He said “Usually I only read stories like this in the News, but today I got to experience one first hand.”

Everyone can learn a new lesson from this inspiring story. Such little acts of human kindness should ensure that the human race as a whole can emerge from this pandemic healthy and happy. As Goethe said, “Kindness is the golden chain by which society is bound together.”
