10 Things to Do Whilst In Lock-down

During this harsh time, it is very easy to lose sense of day and night and witness the days go by as you rotate sitting in your bed and the sofa in your pyjamas. To try and break this cycle, I have created a list of 10 things I like to do to try and avoid the boredom of staying at home.

  • Pick up a new book. For me, this was top of the list as due to the free time, my inner bookworm had resurfaced. This new resurfacing led to me reading George Orwell’s Animal Farm, which I am thoroughly enjoying and would recommend to people who do not know what to read.
  • Bake something. Baking has always been my guilty pleasure and, as the likelihood of getting your favourite cupcakes decreases, the best thing to do is to make your own. Not only does baking help calm anxiety but who doesn’t love at the smell of freshly baked goods wafting through your home? For those of you looking for a recipe, here is my favourite recipe for cakes: https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/iced-fairy-cakes.
  • Pick out and wear a new outfit every day. This not only adds a sense of normality to your relatively new everyday life, but also allows you to be able to wear some of your favourite pieces of clothing again.
  • Physical Activity. Even something as small as playing badminton in the garden with your siblings allows endorphins to be released which ultimately, help improve your mood. This also ensures that you keep fit and healthy throughout the whole of the lockdown period.
  • Painting or other forms of art. This calms anxiety and allows you to express yourself when you may not be otherwise able to.
  • Face-Timing your friends and family. This is essential as it allows you to keep a close bond with the people you value the most in your life. It not only brightens up your day, but can also help when you might be feeling down.
  • Start a new movie or series. This allows you to transport yourself in to another world and often, helps distract you from the boredom many of us are feeling these days.
  • Start and learn a new hobby. This could include embroidery, cooking, baking, starting new puzzles (like I have) or woodwork. There are many options for hobbies and now we have quite literally all the time in the world.
  • Take quizzes. When facing boredom, it always best to know what type of cheese you are.Self- Care. These could include making time to wind down, running a bubble bath with your favourite bath bombs and soaps or doing face/ hair masks. All of these things will eventually calm you down and distract you.

This just proves that you don’t have to be outside with your friends to escape boredom and here are a few ideas to prevent boredom whilst stuck in the house.
