Things To Do Whilst Stuck At Home

Being stuck in your own home can be exhausting, tiring, boring, and monotonous. For many people, self-isolating will be a very new and strange experience that many might find quite jarring.

However, it is important to look on the bright(er) side and channel your excessive energy into doing productive things that you might not have done before quarantining for lack of time, or any other reason. What is there to do whilst you are stuck inside, you may ask? Well, lucky for you, I have compiled a list of things to do to make your quarantine as fun (and maybe a bit productive) as possible.

Write something. Whether it be writing actual letters to family and friends, or thank-you notes to service people, write. Maybe, start a journal, so that when this is all over you can remember it forever, and maybe one day, it’ll be put in history books when students are studying the COVID-19 crisis, 50 years from now. Write a short story. Or a poem. Or a song. Whilst writing about feelings, how about taking time to reflect on the year so far. Write down what have you accomplished. What do you want to accomplish in the rest of the year? Make lists of all the things you want to do places you to visit, shows to see, concerts to go to etc.

With all your free time, maybe learn a new skill, or do something creative. Download Duolingo, learn a new language. (Or at least hello, how are you?) Learn or re-learn an instrument. Paint a picture. Go through your camera roll, and print some out to hang on your wall or put in a photo album. Do a puzzle! Bake something.

Make sure you are staying healthy. Work-out indoors, whether that be John Wicks on YouTube or your own regime, make sure to stay healthy and fit, even when we are stuck indoors. Do a face mask! Take care of your skin. Meditate. Take care of your mind. Go on a health kick and learn how to cook new recipes with ingredients you may not be using already. Take care of your body.

For fun, look at pictures of cute puppies. I recommend @weratedogs on Instagram or Dog A Day Newsletter from Buzzfeed. If you're more of a cat person, I can not relate, so I hope you find some cute kittens to look at. With all your free time, you can finally watch all the long movies that you hadn’t had time for until now. Have a nerf gun fight with your family, I can tell you from experience that this sometimes doesn't end well, so take all my advice with a pinch of salt. If you are still bored, clean. Try on all your clothes and donate the pieces that you won’t really ever wear. Clean that drawer you've been putting off doing for the past year. Just do it.

And most importantly of all, stay connected while staying safe. It can be a very lonely time for humans, so take the time to say hi to your old friends that you haven't talked to in months, or write to your elderly relatives. They will always appreciate it.  Use Skype, FaceTime, Google Hangouts, Marco Polo or Houseparty to video chat.

And remember if you do go out, stay two meters away from everyone. Social distancing saves lives.
