How are we staying positive during corona

During this difficult time of this hideous pandemic, it’s important to keep spirits high. Something which here in the UK, is proving to be an opportunity to bring communities together.  In the borough of Richmond there has been an exciting initiative of volunteering. Most streets have come together and decided to help the vulnerable, who struggle to leave the house. Jobs include childcare, dog walking and shopping. While of course being careful in assisting others, it’s a great way to form some communication between perhaps elderly people who are living alone.  Age Uk supports this scheme, with more information on how to get involved with volunteering in a safe manner on their website.

With social distancing hand washing tips and extraordinary care being provided by the incredible NHS, it’s no wonder how we have come together to show our gratitude for their work. From a post circulating online, 26th of March became the day to clap outside our houses to applause the wonderful NHS. At 8 o’clock to hear streets’ clapping in gratitude was highly emotional, the sacrifice that our worker put themselves through is phenomenal.

The support for the NHS has also been shown with placing images/drawings of rainbows. Up and down all streets people have placed rainbows in their windows to shine a light on the NHS work, and represent a brighter future will come around from this awful pandemic.

The world seems to be at a low point, yet also in more unity than ever. This whole experience has been said to have a dystopian feels about it, nobody could have predicted such an event. In light of the hardship its hoped that this can provide a lesson, to respect the NHS more than ever in the future and to think of the vulnerable not just in a pandemic, but in everyday life.
