Due to the coronavirus, much of the UK's population is quarantined at home. Don't let the coronavirus stop you from doing exactly what you were doing before! (but in your home of course) Many people have realised that they have a little too much free time on their hands and have resorted to watching show after show on Netflix. While the exposure to this type of media can be enriching and entertaining, it is also tiring. So, to give your eyes a rest from the screen here are some things you can do while at home.

The first thing you can do at home is learning a new language. If you are feeling bored and not stimulated enough by the online work set by schools, learn a foreign language. Learning a new language means your brain has to cope with complexity as it makes sense of and absorbs new patterns. Learning a new language helps our brain develop key skills such as cognitive thinking and problem-solving.

The second thing you can do at home is to read books, but not just any book. Challenge yourself. Read a genre you never have before or read a book from a part of the world you've never visited. If libraries aren't open, there are many free audiobooks that are available to download online. Keeping the brain active and engaged in new activities is the best way to keep the learning going while at home.

The top priority at the moment should be to stay on top of school work but remember to leave time for yourself too. There are so many more things you can occupy yourself with while at home. Attempt taking up a new hobby like sewing or crocheting as this would be the perfect time to practice these hobbies to become skilled at them. Stay safe and stay active to help yourself as much as you can.
