Most teenagers now would have heard of Brandy Melville. It's a modern New York City style store stocked full of trendy apparel. Sounds great, right? Well, it comes with a downfall. Brandy Melville's one size fits all policy. And I'm sure your thinking 'One size fits all?!? That sounds great". However, Brandy's version of one size fits all means one size fits size 8 downwards. Obviously, if you don't fit into Brandy's clothes it can make people quite bad about themselves and I had seen a lot online about how it has put them down about their body image, which is a rising problem among teenagers. So, I put out a poll to 60 of my friends and 70% of them said that Brandy Melville has made them feel insecure about the way their body looks. This figure is quite shocking as clothes stores aren't out there to make people feel self-conscious, they should be a way for people to feel more confident and empowered.
I spoke more to my friends Chloe about the problem and she said " One size fits all is literally the most rubbish I have ever heard because that's basically saying 'everyone that fits into these cool clothes are better than you and your body sucks' but that isn't right at all because we are all different no whether you fit into brandy's clothes or not. And I'm pretty sure its the feeling of not belonging when its that 'one size fits all' category. Where the hell am I supposed to be if I don't fit into the all category?"
Overall, classing a shop as petite is acceptable as there are plus-sized stores too but identifying it as one size is cruel and unfair as it builds up the stigma of having a small waist and being thin to be the right body type. This is an outdated belief and in 2020 this is no longer tolerable.
