Turning 17 comes with many new responsibilities such as looking at universities, being a year away from becoming an adult but perhaps the most prominent is learning to drive.

The idea of learning to drive can be daunting, as a child you’re always told to be careful on the roads and now your the one at the wheel. Everyone tells you not to be nervous but you can’t help the feeling until you’ve actually taken the plunge and driven on the road. Personally the most daunting part of driving was not that i’d be bad at it and crash but the fact that there are other people who get annoyed at learner drivers which can cause unease. Despite these drivers, there are many people who understand the situation learner drivers face. After my first lesson I started to gain more and more confidence in myself and my driving as I was quite good at such a new experience. Learning to drive has given me a new sense of freedom in learning, instead of learning at a desk in school I am able to use those same skills in a more practical and a more adult situation. Learning to drive has helped me to become more fearless as I was able to push my fear aside to try something new that I have ended up enjoying a lot more than I thought. It’s also been a new way to help me transition into becoming an adult and all the responsibilities that come with it as I have taken on this new challenge I feel ready to overcome the new ones.
