The latest addition to Weybridge high street is a new branch of ‘The Giggling Squid’ chain Thai restaurant. With 34 branches in total, this eatery is gaining popularity and has opened in its new location just in time for the flood of Christmas diners.

In an interview with the assistant manager it was revealed that Weybridge was chosen as the prime location due to its reputation as a safe area and the restaurant opened on October 18th.

Despite being the fourth Thai restaurant on Church Street, they turn their tables roughly four times a day; with a full capacity of 120 this means roughly 480 people eat there per day.

“We had some trouble recruiting staff when we first opened as all the applicants were very young and lacked experience. However, currently majority of our staff are on permanent contracts and live locally which is ideal” says the assistant manager.

Saturday is their busiest day of the week so "weekdays are the best time to dine.” With a myriad of oriental dishes to choose from, all meals are cooked fresh on site at the order of the customer and the most popular dishes include the Lamb Shank Massaman and the Heavenly Squid.

At £16.50 the Lamb is “cooked to melting perfection in a rich base of coconut milk, cinnamon, nutmeg and star anise.” Slightly cheaper, the squid costs £11.50 and is served with “the delicious crunchy contrast of coconut tips- the edible part of the young coconut tree.”

The target market of the brand is families with children as the standard table size is four settings but there are plenty of private tables for two available too. With a Tripadvisor rating of 4 stars, many would highly recommend ‘The Giggling Squid.’
