Every October, The South East Cancer Help Centre runs a noticeably advertised campaign to gain awareness for their cause, by decorating Purley town in purple.

The South East Cancer Help Centre is a charity organisation which provides help for people suffering from the effects of cancer. The centre is based in Purley, South London. This independent charity does not receive any funding from the government or NHS, so is therefore fully reliant on local donations.

Annually in October, the company strive to raise awareness in the local area by covering the town's trees and lampposts in purple knitted sleeves and posters, and through asking local organisations to dress up their display windows, decorating them purple. The charity also encourages schools and groups in the area to run their own fundraising events in support. Jennifer Mollett, the Chairman of the charity, stated in the Annual Review 2018, that "Paint Purley Purple... continues to grow each year by attracting way more local businesses, schools and individuals to join."

Throughout October 2019, named "SECHC Awareness Month", the charity has arranged multiple events, to give locals the opportunity to provide the vital donations which allow this remarkable charity to continue running. Each Friday and Saturday throughout this month, the instrumental volunteer team are collecting donations in Tesco Purley. They are also hosting fun, inclusive activities such as a "Dog Jog" in Crystal Palace Park on the 19th, and a "Race Night" at Purley Sports Club on the 25th.

This crucial awareness period will continue to the end of the month, and any kind donations would be greatly appreciated by this generous, selfless charity. If you would like to contribute any donations, you can visit their website or attend one of their collaborative, fun awareness events. Tickets for the events can be found on the website.
