I believe that everyone is aware of the problems that our planet is facing, but don’t worry I’m not going to bore you with the science but just encase anyone needs reminding here are a few statistics: more than a million species face potential extinction, 90% of coral reefs are predicted to disappear and finally possibly the most terrifying is that the Arctic region may have its first completely ice-free summer by 2040.

I also believe that everyone if given the opportunity will do what they can to protect their home for themselves and future generations which is why I want you to stop recycling and start reducing the number of products that you’re recycling. This is because recycles energy that is usually the non-renewable and the relations between recyclers, consumers and manufacturers. They also rely on far too many factors to make it a dependable option whatever we put in our recycling bin is completely out of our control.

There is a very small chance that what we put in our recycling bins gets recycled as there is a very small market and the cost to buy the material and it is more expensive to recycle than produce plastic. And even if that Is recycled the material is no longer recyclable and will then end up in the incinerator or landfill and we end up losing the resource all together.

After hopefully scaring you I’m going to let you in on the big secret to saving money and the environment: eliminating and reducing disposables. Every time we buy or accept disposables we are condoning the depletion of natural resources and the use of toxic materials and the use of tax payer money on manage waste instead to education and the improvements of infrastructure.

So, next time you’re doing your weekly shop please, for the sake or your wallet and future generations choose plastic free.
