This past Saturday (April 27th), I went to a KPOP dance workshop, for the smash hit song ‘Kill This Love’ by Blackpink. Within this workshop UJJN members; Nicole, Dani, Chunseo and SJ Han, half of the members of UJJN, taught the chorus, dance break and the ending of ‘Kill This Love’ through the course of two hours, and there was also a dance audition after to join UJJN in a special version of the dance choreography video.

This event started at half 2 and concluded by half 5. In this time Nicole broke down the key parts of the choreography and ensured the whole class understood, frequently asking “any questions?” This was effective and helpful as it allowed for shy members of the class to ask anything, moreover, Dani, Chunseo, and SJ, went around and helped the class with steps they were perhaps not getting fully correct, and aided them with their execution of the move.  Moreover, all of the members of UJJN were all very sweet and also extremely helpful. If/when the hold another class I will definitely be interested in going.

I enjoyed this event as I made lots of new friends, and they also managed to get my uncoordinated self too learned and performed the choreography, with relative success. Moreover, when I asked others in the class here is what they said was “It was my first time going to a KPOP dance workshop and not gonna lie I was kinda nervous and intimidated because I thought everyone would be really good and I would fall behind and have to quit because it was too hard, but everyone was so nice and I enjoyed it a lot. I made many new friends that day and I would love to go again”, Miriam. In addition to this, another member of the class, Moses said “I thought the event was amazing. It was a great opportunity for me to make new friends, have fun and to show my potential in dance. The teachers had a fantastic personality which made the workshop even more fun! Overall I had a great time and hope there would be more event like these.”

‘Kill this Love’ was choreographed by Kyle Hanagami (Red Velvet, NCT Dream), and is an electropop track; who’s lyrics have been described as a "breakup anthem". One of the writers of the song, Bekuh Boom (Eyes, Nose, Lips by Taeyang), said “There are times in our lives when we perceive love negatively. After a breakup, during fights, in case of unrequited love, we are so vulnerable, that we refuse to picture our lives without the one person who means the world to us.” The song also hit #1 in 36 iTunes countries and regions, moreover, the music video was the fastest to reach 2 million likes on YouTube in less than 2 hours of its release. The music video became the most watched music video in the first 24 hours by hitting 56.7M views in record time.
