Tuesday 26th March 2019 saw the conglomeration of several different universities at the Excel Centre in London. A-level students from a variety of different secondary schools came in their hoards, pouring off the DLR train at Custom House Station, to get an insight into their ideal university and the facilities and courses available.

The exhibition featured several universities, from across the country, from Durham and the University of East London to the University of Edinburgh. Representatives stood at separate stalls, welcoming and friendly, ready to answer any questions on their university, whether it was about the food, work load or specific courses. Each stand had prospectuses to offer to the students visiting, containing useful information and specific details concerning the institute. Whilst the majority of universities offer a wide range of courses, others are more specialised, like the Bloomsbury institute, which is focused around law, business and accounting. Having so many universities in one area made it easier to recognise the more suitable institutions for the career path we wish to follow. Many of us were made aware of several, less well-known but nevertheless good places of higher education Personally the visit opened my eyes to see past Oxford and Cambridge as being the only prestigious universities in London. Various talks were held which provided more information on courses and certain career paths. A 360° experience within a large inflatable sphere, sparked amusement, and gave viewers a taste of daily life as a university student.

All in all, the session provided something for everyone, be it a greater understanding of the courses to offer at particular universities, the facilities available or further insight into universities outside of the Russell Group.

Nurin Choudhury speaking about the exhibition: “I was unaware that there were so many universities in London until today. It was certainly useful in terms of helping me decide which universities I will apply for.”
