In 2006 Cassandra Clare published her first novel in her series The Mortal Instruments which is a series of six fantasy novels, the last of which was published in 2017. While it The Mortal Instruments is chronologically the third series of a proposed five in The Shadowhunter Chronicles it was the first one published. Since then she has published the Infernal Devices a trilogy that is a prequel series to The Mortal Instruments series, and contains some of the character's ancestors. Her latest series is The Dark Artifices trilogy which is chronologically the fourth series in The Shadowhunter Chronicles and a sequel to The Mortal Instruments.

Here I have listed for you, in no particular order the best relationships in the Shadowhunter universe.

ALEC and MAGNUS

One of our first relationships in the chronicles is one that only keeps getting better. While they meet at a party their relationship is nothing but ordinary. Probably the loveliest thing about their relationship is how solid it is and how we see it progressing to them having kids and getting married. Personally my favourite thing about their relationship is how much Magnus has brought out Alec’s personality which we wouldn’t have seen otherwise.

JACE and CLARY

Perhaps one of the more typical romances in the novel nevertheless it is still really good. You can draw many parallels of ‘bad boy’ to Jace and ‘good girl’ to Clary however one thing that we can put above these stereotypes about their relationship is their desire together and individually to do the right thing which basically means save the world. Although a bit cliche who doesn’t love a couple with problematic family who save the world together.

JULIAN and EMMA

Definitely the hardest relationship for their characters and for the fans to read. Their relationship was one of dangerous and forbidden parabatai love; while they do have their moments of weakness they never had the chance to love each other fully for a long time. In order to be able to fully love each other they go to depths of the world to find a solution often endangering their lives and for the most part unintentionally others. Julian’s change in character for the good and for the bad shows the ugly side of love.

TESSA and JEM and TESSA and WILL

Despite both Tessa and Jem having strong feelings for Tessa we never saw their friendship waver. Time played out in a way that both Jem and Will get to have their love story with Tessa, Will first and Jem after. Even though Jem proposed to Tessa first and she rejected Will initially, she ended up marrying Will and staying with him until she died due to unfortunate circumstances for Jem which didn’t allow them to be together. Because Tessa loved them both equally and Jem and Will also loved each other like parabatai do it made the two realtionships very bittersweet.

KIT and TY

Two characters who had endured so much despite only being fifteen and deserve a happy ending in each others arm like no one else does. An important thing to note about these two don’t really become an established couple, but that doesn’t mean we can’t ship them. Unfortunately we don’t get nearly as much time on these characters like we do with others but that doesn’t mean they are any less interesting.

CRISTINA and MARK and KIERAN

Where do we start with these three, their chemistry as couples so Mark and Kieran or Mark and Cristina is electrifying enough but together it is something else. At the beginning I only shipped Mark and Kieran but the further I go into their character the more I realised that Mark and Kieran need Cristina to be together and how Cristina just deserves happiness too.
