Since the first show on Broadway in 1997, The Lion King has grown to be a much-loved musical for kids, adults, and everyone in between. Held in the Lyceum Theatre, the show has continually wowed thousands of people every week with it’s extravagant costumes, creative set design, and, of course, the incredible actors and actresses.

Disney’s The Lion King was released in 1994, and has now become one of the most adored Disney classics, and the musical has also had the same approving response. Along with the classic songs from the original film like ‘The circle of life’, ‘I just can’t wait to be king’, and ‘Hakuna matata’, the show also incorporated new songs which were performed by the extremely talented orchestra.

By 2014, the musical had made £3.8 billion and is the highest grossing stage show in history. David Gritten wrote this about the musical in a Guardian article; “It’s easy to overlook, what with all the trumpeting of huge grosses and audience figures, what a radical piece of theatre The Lion King is, and always was.”

The show includes a diverse cast, all of which can sing, dance, and act exceptionally. Even more impressively, some of the actors were balancing on stilts when portraying giraffes, and still managed to perform just as effectively. Helen Squires, who went to see the musical on March 30th, says; “It was fascinating to watch the dancing. The choreography was so intricate; it was amazing how animalistic and lifelike it was.”

The performance has been a roaring success for nearly twenty years, and has provided entertainment for over 12 million people. With colourful costumes, energetic dancing, and skillful musicians, what is not to love about The Lion King musical?
