When we hear the word ‘hate’, we should think of an intense mix of anger, malice and jealousy. That is what it is, except that it is much more extreme in terms of crime. ‘Hate’ is a strong word that is to be used accordingly because we always underestimate it, using it playfully to describe something that is slightly unappealing. Hate is what killed 51 innocent people in New Zealand and 160 in Mali. Hate is what invented murder. Hate is pointless.

According to Google, the definition of ‘Hate Crime’ is- “A crime, typically one involving violence that is motivated by prejudice on the basis of race, religion, sexual orientation, or other grounds.”

Hate in the UK is uncontrollable now, and the terror attacks are not helping. 52% of all hate crime in the UK is targeted at Muslims. What the terrorists don’t understand is that Islam is a religion of peace. The Quran says, “Worship Allah and associate nothing with Him, and to parents do good, and to relatives, orphans, the needy, the near neighbour, the neighbour farther away, the companion at your side…” [4:36]. They believe that all Muslims are terrorists which is why they go on a killing spree. Well, if all Muslims (24% of the world’s population) are terrorists, don’t they think that there would be no one left on earth except Muslims? The same goes for supremacists and racists. Certain global events result an increase of hate crime. Events such as the EU Referendum for Brexit in 2016 resulted in an increase of xenophobic, religious and racist hate crimes by 44%. Others are such as the Westminster attack, the London Bridge attack and the Manchester arena attack in 2017- following these there has been a spike of 6,000 hate crimes. Xenophobia is the dislike or hatred of people from a certain country. Such as EU migrants in the UK having higher paid jobs than those that were born here, being criticized for ‘stealing their jobs’ even though the migrants are likely more qualified. 76% of hate crimes recorded by the police in 2015 and 2016 were based on race and 9,400 hate crimes were recorded by police between 2017 and 2018 in England and Wales.

However, hate in the US is just as extreme, if not more. There were approximately 1020 Hate Groups in America in 2018. We already heard of some such as the infamous white supremacist group – The KKK, but, one group in particular, who is named ‘The New Black Panther Party’ is an extremist hate group that dwells in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. They are a group that are virulently racist and an anti-Semitic organization whose leaders have promoted and encouraged violence against whites, Jews and law enforcement officers. It was founded in Dallas, 1989 and with its’s founder unknown, it is now run by Malik Zulu Shabazz. Shabazz is particularly skilled at planning extreme protests. He was kicked out from the ‘Nation of Islam’ after he became an embarrassment even to that deadly hate group, so Shabazz went on to take up the leadership of the New Black Panther Party. One of the most disturbing ideas they have promoted is: “I hate white people. All of them. Every last iota of a cracker, I hate it. We didn’t come out here to play today … What the hell is wrong with you black man? You at a doomsday with a white girl on your damn arm. We keep begging white people for freedom! No wonder we not free! Your enemy cannot make you free, fool! You want freedom? You going to have to kill some crackers! You going to have to kill some of their babies!”

That, is the level of audacity hate groups can reach and blaming anyone, nor panicking is not going to make it any better. We, as humans need to step up against the hate and violence that is being thrown around in this nation and all around the world. We need to tackle this hate together and try to make the world a more peaceful place. Not trying is only going to make it worse. Trying will make a difference where being passive will not.
