I took the initiative of entering the BBC News Young Reporter Competition and submitted a story of my own. Unfortunately, although I did have a phone interview with the BBC, I did not get into the next round. However, I was offered the opportunity of going to BBC Broadcasting House in London. Josie Verghese, a Senior Producer At BBC and the lady who interviewed me had informed me that there were spare audience spaces at the One Show and so invited me to come along. Surprised, yet, happy, I accepted the offer and travelled to London with my Mum.

Upon arriving at London, I had the pleasure of meeting Josie Verghese and fellow young people who had entered this competition. We all spoke with one another about our stories and how they had impacted our lives. My story, in particular, was about health and weight loss among young people, in which I spoke about my own experience. Listening to the stories of other young people did not only further my knowledge, but also allowed me to gain a much greater insight into the lives, joys, but also struggles of others. After our discussions, we were escorted into Broadcasting House and were then taken to the studio. Being told that I was going to be visible on live TV was quite a surprise since I thought that part of being the "audience" would mean that I would be out of sight. However, I was soon proved wrong and was on screen.

Although it was rather surprising and nerve-wracking, it was nonetheless a great experience to gain a deeper insight into the way in which the BBC studios cooperate and work together in particular, but also an insight into the real hard work which goes behind what we see every day on our TV screens. Stacey Dooley was the guest of the show and a couple of us had the opportunity of asking her a few questions regarding her journalism and her career as a whole. Being able to hear what Stacey Dooley had to say gave me a greater understanding of the work which goes into journalism. I, therefore, thank Josie Verghese for giving me this great opportunity and the One Show for being so warm and welcoming. I also thank Stacey Dooley for giving not only me but other young people an insight into journalism. I definitely hope for future opportunities similar to this one and cannot wait for what is ahead of me next.
