A huge number of people were murdered last year, the worst London has experienced in around ten years. 2019 has only begun and there have already been 10 knife crime cases. Most recently, in Romford, a young girl named Jodie Chesney died due to stabbing. She was only seventeen.

About nine o’clock in the night, in a park situated in Saint Neots Road, Jodie Chesney was listening to music with her friends. The criminals left the park and returned half an hour later; they approached her. It has been reported that the man who stabbed Jodie in the back was in his late teens. After leaving the knife in her neck, he ran away with his friend.

Some people have speculated that this event had some links with gangs. Perhaps the murderer was dared to commit such an act in order to prove his loyalty.

A local citizen said that ‘there are so many gangs’ which is why there are multiple CCTV cameras installed in that area. Hence, the park is a perfect place for these gangs to hang out around because there are no cameras there. She also said ‘When you walk past (the park) you can always smell marijuana.’

Still in search for the criminals, the Metropolitan police have marked the place in the park where the incident took place and forensic inspections are happening. The police have been asking people if they know anything about the event and to contact 020 8345 3775 if they see anything suspicious.

With continuous patrols taking place in Harold Hill, the police are determined to do more investigation into this case and to bring justice to Jodie’s family.
