February is the LGBTQ history month, every year people of the LGBTQ community celebrate how far they have come and celebrate every person’s differences. It is important for schools to celebrate LGBTQ history month so that every teenager can feel accepted for who they are and who they like. Schools and students should celebrate LGBTQ history month, as it is a month to celebrate human rights, and that in the UK everyone is allowed to marry whoever they want.

Everyone should be proud of being them, and people should support each other no matter their sexuality. If someone you know is a part of the LGBTQ community you should treat them the same, as all human are equal and deserve equal treatment. It is also important that, if someone comes out to you, and has not told anyone else yet, you make them feel loved and supported. You should be careful when someone comes out to you because if they have not told anyone else and it happens that you tell someone, it can lead to that person being bullied, which can affect their mental health.

In Sir George Monoux College we celebrated LGBTQ history month by gathering all together and doing different activities to show our support to the LGBTQ community. The people that attended the events had the opportunity to enjoy nice music, eat cookies and cupcakes and create different things to show their support of the community. Students from our college were able to get together and have fun while celebrating their differences. Students also had the opportunity to meet and interact freely with other students from the college.

Sir George Monoux College is a very accepting and welcoming for the LGBTQ community, as it has an LGBTQ club, which students that are part of this community could go to every week and talk about themselves. The students in this college will feel safe to express themselves, as it should be in all schools. However, in some schools bullying is still happening, and students from the LGBTQ community are one of the main targets. Schools should build safe environments, by talking to all of the students, making sure that all of them are safe and happy. Teachers should make LGBTQ students feel safe and welcome when going to school, teachers should also know how to build strong connections with LGBTQ students and should be able to gain their trust.

February is the month of LGBTQ history, however, throughout the whole year you can show your support, and encourage people to be themselves. People should celebrate who they are throughout the whole year and most importantly celebrate human rights.
