On the week beginning Monday 10th February, Ewell Castle had its annual Enterprise Week wherein each year participates in numerous activities that are aimed at developing entrepreneurial skills for all pupils in the school.

The week kicked off on Monday with a ‘Dragon’s Den’ competition organised by the head of Business Studies. This was designed for the Year 7s to increase participation from a young age. The winning product of the 'Dragon's Den' competition was ‘The Rise and Fall Harness’ with a business model sold to Go Ape and Head for Heights to make active children engaged on height related climbing.

A first for this year was the creation of an enterprise day for Years 7-11, a venture that was usually reserved for the Sixth Form. Throughout the week, each form in these years pitched their ideas and one form from each year was permitted to sell their winning item on the Thursday of Enterprise Week. The winners were 7LBC with a Fairground Attraction stall which made over £250 of which all was unanimously given to charity.

On the Monday, adverts from each Sixth Form group were shown in Whole School Assembly in a bevy of laughter from staff and students alike. Posters were arranged throughout the week with preparations in full force. I was a member of 6IAC and we won the bidding for hot dogs, examples of other products were chocolate products, cake, Haribo’s, and pizza.

On Friday 15th, the 6th Form Enterprise day began at 10:30 with an extended break time. Stalls were set up across the school grounds and each team began making sales to the students and teachers. The pizza ran out within 10 minutes and the hot dogs, twenty while the Haribo team resorted to throwing their goods in the air for lack of purchases. By the end, the stalls were closed and the teams were left to count their money and make a slideshow for presentation in the Sixth Form Enrichment Session later in the day. The winners were ‘Dinosaur Donuts’ who were judged on three criteria: teamwork, profit made, and the quality of their film showed in assembly on Monday. Business teacher and one of the judges, Mr D'Souza, commented that "the winners used a creative advert with a really good product in the best way."

Ewell Castle is proud to announce that a total of £910.90 was raised and this was split between the Malawi Educational Charity and the Rotary Club Ewell, the latter of which who have been in touch with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation who agreed to add to this donation and treble the amount raised.
