Bitterly cold winds sweep across the nation as we creep into the month of February. The Met Office have issued yellow weather warnings for snow and ice for majority of the UK, expecting snow to reach heights of around 10cm in some areas. It is believed that temperatures plummeted overnight causing several schools to remain closed.

The crisis of homelessness stays on going as our government continue failing thousands who are living in wretched conditions. It is believed that a man of his 30s died in Birmingham yesterday after trying to tackle the horrific weather conditions.

Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan launched a homelessness action plan and is calling for more funding from central government but no further action is being carried out quick enough. Homelessness is on the rise, a contagious disease, yet still no work done.

However we are trying. The UKYP is formed by passionate young people from around the country from their youth councils hoping to make a change. They debate very big issues affecting us today in the Houses of Common annually and it happened so that last November, one of the issues they frowned upon was homelessness. The aim was to prove to MPs that homelessness is worse than it actually seems and how we can tackle the issue. One of the young people who debated said “Now a days it is so rare to leave your house and not see someone perched on the road begging for spare change or even left overs. It's devastating. But if we speak out we can help.”

Weather conditions will continue to stay extreme so keep safe!
