On the 12th January 2019, I sat the Mensa IQ test at Birkbeck College in London. This is something I have always wanted to do, and I have always been very interested to see what the test consisted of and how well I would do.

I sat two papers, one being similar to a non-verbal paper, and one more of a verbal/English paper. The non-verbal one was split up into several smaller sections and we had to complete the sections in timed conditions one at a time. I found the non –verbal paper quite difficult as a result of the time restraints but was able to just about finish the sections. That paper consisted of many different challenges, including: patterns, shapes and rotations.

The second paper I sat was more similar to an English paper, still hard, but for myself, I found it to be more manageable as there weren’t such harsh time constrictions. Within this paper, included: synonyms, completing sentences (filling in the gaps) and some more aspects.

The experience itself was unlike anything I had ever done before and I am extremely happy that I did do it. I was lucky enough to score inside the top 2% of the country in one of the papers, so will be looking to get more involved with Mensa in the future, and carry on extending my knowledge and working my brain to its full potential.
