The Girl on the Train (2016) Cast; Emily Blunt, Haley Bennett, Rebecca Ferguson, Justin Theroux, Luke Evans Director; Tate Taylor After watching Emily blunt in the new movie Mary Poppins Returns I was curious as to what other movies Emily Blunt had starred in and came across the 2016 movie The Girl on the Train. I thought Emily Blunt gives a remarkable performance in Tate Taylor’s chilling drama mystery The Girl on the Train. The film is based on a character, Rachel Watson (Emily Blunt) who develops an obsession of watching an apparent picture-perfect couple after her own relationship crumbles to a dramatic end. The main character Rachel’s fixation begins after seeing daily glimpses of a couple from the window of her train. The couple Megan (Hayley bennet) and Scott (Luke Evans) lives next door to her previous house where she lived with her husband, now living there is her ex-husband Tom (Justin Theroux) and new wife Anna (Rebecca Ferguson). Rachel creates a sensational world in her head of how the couple live, for example what they would do first thing in the morning. Her fantasy world collapses after a trip on the train to work and she witnesses Megan cheating on her husband. Rachel tells the authorities what she saw after finding out Megan had been reported missing, the authorities doubt her statements as they suspect her of having something to do with her sudden disappearance due to not remembering what she was doing or where she was the last time Megan was seen.

The director of the films “The Help” and “Get on Up” Tate Taylor shows off his astonishing skills directing this thriller. In an interview Tate Taylor explains that even though this movie dissects the lives of three woman (Rachel, Megan and Anna) to find out what exactly is the reason why they act the way they do, he makes it clear that he “doesn’t see the genders in the film “He then goes onto explaining that he knows people like to always gravitate towards the situation between a man and a woman however that doesn’t interest him as much as just getting to the truth in a film. Taylor uses flashbacks to get the viewers to solve the mystery themselves. I thought it was a great way to get the viewers’ attention as it makes the twist ending more of a surprise as nobody would have guessed it.

The Girl on the Train would have to be one of my favorite Emily Blunt Films, even though I feel like there could have been a bit more back story on the male characters in the movie as they were portrayed as the villains towards the end, just like how you always wonder why a murderer kills you just want to know why? Also, another thing that would have been better is having a more realistic setting on the train. When we think of a train, we think of horrible off colors and dirty windows, the only thing that was rough in that setting was Emily Blunts makeup; red nose, red skin and a split lip. This by the way suited her character as she was an alcoholic. Other than those minor setbacks I thought the film overall was a very enjoyable suspenseful film that I would recommend watching.
