In between the beauty of Copenhagen lies a new world hidden behind a wall, this artistic glory is called Christiania. It is a community full of artists, homeless and market workers, who have created their own way of living. As you walk through this arch in the wall you reach a modern Narnia full of colour, the walls covered in graffiti of statements on society or many abstract pieces really delivering a feel for what this community is about. You park your bike eat the entrance and you walk around the paths seeing caravans, tents and homes all decorated in tiles and lights and it begins to hit you this is a home. Lanes and lanes of buzzing noise from the markets of trinkets nothing much and every now and the the odd shop. There was one particular shop that was swarmed with rainbows painted on the outside and wellies of different colours in rows beneath a stunning painting of peacock, you walk in to see postcards and canvases of paintings based upon scenery within Copenhagen but all in acrylic paint of rainbow colours, the work of this artist was unbelievable and really encapsulated the whole vibe of Christiania.
Besides the markets there were these huge metal warehouses full of antiques and old vinyls, it went on for years, gigantic! What I loved most about this place was that it was so raw, above the warehouse was a second floor visible to the costumers bellow that was filled with sleeping bags with the odd person asleep. I was amazed how many people were really living in the place that I could feel they all took part in its creation, even though you went from seeing some artist who lived in a rundown house but the inside was stunning to seeing homeless people on laying in the grass or making a home for themselves in abandoned flats. This community was a huge encouragement of peace and putting aside a status and you could feel the unity as you watched the way each person communicated with each other. I feel in love with this environment and I was obsessed with how magical it was and how it was all hidden by a wall.
