It has been revealed that the U.K is the most obese nation in western Europe, so much so that  now 17%  of British kids are suffering from obesity, and a further 14% are overweight, in fact ,studies show that only a third of boys and only a quarter of girls in the U.k ,meet the recommended 60 minutes of physical activity a day. The government health minister, Anna Soubry has introduced schemes to try and encourage more exercise amongst young people, for example, 3 million has been made available for “change 4 life sports clubs,”   Which involves a multitude of games and activities to help with children’s level of fitness.

One sport that has witnessed an increase in popularity recently is netball. When I spoke to my friend, who plays for the school team and borough, she told me that she played netball as an escape from everyday life, and that she loved the intensity of the sport, Reflecting on the increase of the number of people playing the sport, she responded that it is probably down to the fact that netball is now more televised. I thoroughly recommend young children across the nation to try out this sport, and get active and healthy. There are a number of clubs and facilities for young people to access netball, such as “phoenix flames junior netball club” in Chingford and “Leyton netball club” (as well as many others).Make it your new years resolution! I spent many years playing netball in primary school, and I only wish I had the time to continue playing it!
