In the past month Epping has been beaming with decorative lights and Christmas cheer. Many try to keep warm under the fairy lights that are delicately wrapped around small Christmas trees like scarves dawned around a neck.

Many events have been taking place this Christmas; from the Christmas market on the 7th December to the Christmas carols on Christmas Eve. Epping was buzzing with joy and festive cheer.

The Christmas carols on Christmas Eve, labelled as ‘Carols on the Green’ on the brochure, proved a tremendous success as hundreds gathered round to share their excitement and happiness for Christmas. Many sang amongst the audience with The Choir and Band of Epping St John School, some of Epping’s local schools and Sonor Ersen as their musical director. Not only was there singing but Tesco’s had given out mince pies for the locals, who bellowed out hymns and a few pop songs to celebrate this holiday in the cold.

I asked for the opinions of those who participated in the crowd and one local resident said:

“I’ve just moved to Epping recently and collectively this is the most amount of people I’ve seen show up to an Essex communal event ever.”
