A 21 year-old man operating as a 'fake' paramedic is believed to have treated more than 100 patients and responded to 999 calls.

The trainee member of staff had failed his paramedic exams but posed as a qualified paramedic by infiltrating an internal computer system used by emergency crews while they were on duty.

London Ambulance service confirmed that it "immediately ended" the man's employement. In a statement LAS said, "We take our responsibilities towards patients very seriously."

LAS further added, "As soon as we became aware of the activities of this individual, the police was informed and affected individuals were contacted."

Today the Metropolitan Police revealed it had questioned a 21-year-old man on suspicion of fraud and other offences, such as assault. This was related to the potentially unlawful physical contact made with patients.

NHS Improvement, said, "NHS Improvement has supported LAS during its investigations and we continue to do so to prevent this happening again."
