Storm Diana sweeps in from the Atlantic today and there is a big change in weather expected.

Heavy rain and gales in the middle of the week will replace the recent cold and sunny spells. Storm Diana was named by the IPMA Portuguese weather service, and currently threatens the Azores and is due to hit western parts of the UK on Wednesday.

Today conditions of the storm begin with the wet and windy weather pushing in from the southwest. On Wednesday Storm Diana is due to arrive in the north of Ireland. Winds of up to 60mph and heavy rain could sweep through western parts of the UK.

Thousands of passengers were affected with airlines such as British Airways (who canceled 45 flights) canceling their flights and 237 delays at the West London hub.

The Met Office has issued severe weather warnings from 3 am on Wednesday until 3 pm on Thursday.
