Many say that vinyl records are a dying breed, but is it possible to bring them back?

Vinyl records only hold a 2.6% in the music market, a total of 47.3 million were bought in 2016, making sales drop by 11.7%; whilst streaming music is peaking day by day. This makes me wonder, why something like that would happen to such a revolutionary invention?

One could say that having vinyl records is very inconvenient, they are big, you can’t have them on the go and to play them you need a completely different device, whereas with streaming services such as SoundCloud, Spotify etc. you can download an app on your mobile device, a thing people carry with themselves every single day.

However, all of that doesn’t erase the nostalgia that vinyl records hold, I mean, once upon a time that was the only music resource you could ever have! Additionally, many people say that the sound coming from a record player is much clearer sounding than from your average everyday speaker. All other aspects aside, it’s genuinely a cool collectable to have in your household.

One-way vinyl records could come back is by merging the old generation with the new one. If you think about it, vinyl’s mean more to people that are above their 40s, it would help if today’s generation artists would also make their music available on vinyl records, so the younger generation could experience a cleaner sound of music that they love. This would both increase the sales from the performer’s fans, and the older generation that loves collecting vinyl’s and discovering new music.
