A few years ago there was a catastrophic event in St Matthews Estate nearby Currys in Brixton. This lead to all residents in serious panic. Due to the mishap in the house with the electricity there was a sudden outburst of flames. Despite having children in the house they all made it out safety and no one was physically harmed. However, lots of neighbours were caused some distress by it as it made them worry.

Lots of smoke came out for the side of the building which is one of the key things that alerted neighbours as well as the noise, scent and the fire brigade. In scenarios like these it is important to stay calm and call 999 immediately to prevent injury. Furthermore, this highlights why it is essential to have supplies like smoke detectors and fire extinguishers to calm down the fire and stop the spreading.

As staying the building would have been dangerous we were urged to evacuate the building immediately for our safety. After a while, those below the 4th floor were allowed to return to the building as the fire happened on the 5th floor. It would be unsafe for those above the 4th floor is go back to the building because of it.

This situation had been an eye opener to all residents about safety indoors whilst cooking, cleaning etc and the risks of it. The victims were kindly placed in a hostel whilst the flat was being repaired and then soon returned to their humble abode with their family.
