National Tree Week started in 1975 to mark the winter tree planting season. Many people are getting involved this year up and down the country. In London, this weekend around 15,000 volunteers are aiming to plant more than 80,000 trees! London’s Mayor Sadiq Khan has vowed to give £5 million to community funds to help plant trees.  This is all in aid to help London to become the world's first “National Park city”.

A pressing issue in today’s society is Deforestation around the world.  What does the future hold for our planet and children? Many species of plants that could be the cure for cancer are being destroyed but we would never know they existed. Many species are being killed in THEIR habitats or fleeing their safe homes because of deforestation. The cause of this is the buying and selling of everyday products which contain palm oil  In addition, there are many other factors  including  tree clearance for agriculture. There is no Planet B, so we all need to act today and join the movement, to give our planet a bright green future. Deforestation is a global issue and everyone needs to make a difference. So pick up spade and get digging!
