A speaker from Elevate recently visited Hatch End High School.

Elevate is a programme which runs seminars and workshops across the UK and worldwide to provide students with the right skills and attitudes in order to excel in their exams. It was created in Australia and it has been effectively mentoring students since 2001. By extensive research over the years, Elevate has found the methods that top students use for excellent grades in examinations and all year round. The programme also uses young people, such as students in university, to present the key ideas. This ensures that the students can relate to the speaker and that the speaker has modern first-hand experience regarding the education system and revision.

The seminar at Hatch End High School particularly focused on preparation for exams as the speaker said, ‘the exams are not the hard part, exams are easy, it’s the preparation that is hard.’ The speaker shared an analogy which deeply resonated with the students. He explained students improving using feedback with an idea about phones. Nokia would create phones, but when they were provided with feedback from the customers, they would not act on this to improve their phone. This was due to the producers feeling as though they were incapable of producing anything better and did not push their abilities. On the other hand, iPhone producers would use customer feedback to their advantage, they would continuously try tailoring their phones to the public, consequently demand increased and today iPhone is the number one selling phone brand in the world. The speaker told the students to apply the iPhone method to when they get exam papers back, this reflection will allow results to improve as students learn what the examiners are looking for.

Elevate is an amazing programme which continuously motivates young students to achieve the best they can in a simplified way. This scheme shows that anyone is capable of getting the top grades and there are no barriers in the way which cannot be broken.
