The John Lyons University Fair was open to sixth form students across Harrow on the 16th of November 2018. Held in the Boyd Campbell Hall, more than 40 universities and other organisations gave information to students about what paths they may take after they finish their A-Level studies.

The students including myself could ask questions, read information and listen to talks done by the head of higher education in John Lyons, Mr Stephan Mepham and Dr Ruth Macdonald from St John’s College, Oxford.

These talks informed students on the process of UCAS application and the difference between the Oxford application process and the Cambridge application process which many of my classmates found immensely helpful such as Chiwhon Won, stating; “I am more confident with my choice of University and also I feel less nervous about my UCAS application.”

Many Russel group universities such as Oxford, LSE, KSL, Birmingham and Warwick had stands and booklets to allow students to read for themselves or ask questions on the daily timetable for that university and the entry requirements.

The atmosphere of the event was enthusiastic, many students were relieved to be able to ask questions. One of my classmates, Nell McHugh stated; “I was so excited to be able to ask questions about Reading University as this is a university I am quite interested in.”

The fair was extremely helpful for myself and my classmates, we were treated respectfully and our questions were answered with enthusiasm.

I would extremely recommend for you to attend as the event lessened my anxiety and opened my mind to new opportunities.
