Dartford grammar school for girls takes a new approach towards learning and nominates 12 key stage 4 students to host a science café for the younger years. Dartford’s science café invites younger years to interact and socialise with older years, in order to learn in a more laid back environment. A year 8 described her first time attending as “welcoming and interesting because I was able to learn away from the key stage 3 specifications with students equally interested in science.” Of scientists and engineers seeking employment, 1 in 7 engineers are female. Men are more likely than women to have a STEM career (A science, technology, engineering or maths based job) regardless of educational attainment. Dartford grammar school for girls pushes students to excel above this statistic by introducing a stem society club and promoting engineering competitions. This teaches students to have a more independent and grown-up response towards their own personal academic achievements.
