On Friday the 12th of October, Croatia and England faced each other in a highly anticipated clash following Croatia's triumph over England in Russia in the summer at the World Cup. With England looking to get revenge, the official crowd at the game was nil - Croatia's punishment for a swastika being visible on the pitch before before a European qualifier in 2015.

Despite the match being played behind closed doors England were the more positive at the start, and perhaps they would go into half time slightly frustrated with the goalless scoreline and ruing missed chances, perhaps the most notable being Eric Dier's header from a corner hitting the post. Gareth Southgate, the England manager said: "The first half was pretty even but we had a very good chance from a corner, which we probably should have got on the end of. They had one from a cut-back."

In the second half Harry Kane also missed a chance not dissimilar to Eric Dier's in the first half, heading into the post from a corner, and then Marcus Rashford produced two poor misses with only the Croatia goalkeeper to beat. So, will England feel they could have won the game? Most certainly. Was the game rather flat and seemed to drag on? For sure.

It was underwhelming to tell the truth, but perhaps it was the start of a new generation of football with Dortmund wonder-kid Jaydon Sancho making his debut start for England and being the second youngest player to make his debut for England after Duncan Edwards in 1955. He's certainly possesses the skill to do big things in the near future.

Raheem Sterling has gone over 1,800 minutes without scoring a goal for the three lions, however he still seems to be preferred to Rashford by Southgate who stays firm that Sterling will get that goal. Over the World Cup Sterling was mocked for how many chances that he missed and he again didn't score on Friday. Rashford on the other hand was rather bright in the World Cup with some bright performances. They possess similar attributes to each other; both being lightning quick however Rashford has more of an eye for goal and is definitely the more natural finisher of the pair.

With the final score being a rather dull 0-0, both teams will want to bounce back when they next play...
